We are very excited to be offering “FUNctional fitness” sessions. These develop children's proficiency for strong and efficient functional movement patterns relevant to everyday life as well as sporting contexts. Each session comprises of a warm up, a workout and a fun game. Over the course of several sessions, the children experience activities covering cardiovascular endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.

The workouts and movements are always tailored to individual children’s abilities and needs. While the workouts are suitably challenging, the emphasis is always on fun and enjoyment.

In addition to physical fitness, we also aim to build positive character traits such as resilience, determination and teamwork. Most importantly we aim to foster a positive attitude and enjoyment of physical activity that will pave the way to lifelong health and fitness.

To describe an example session, a focus for one week may be proficiency in squatting movement patterns. After a warm up and teaching the children good squatting mechanics, a workout could be:

As many rounds as possible (AMRAP) in five minutes of:

1 rope climb/hang/swing

10 squats

4 high box crawl overs

The game following this workout could be dodgeball, where the children perform two squats if they are hit by the ball.
